Solar Estimator

Mission:
A-C Electric Company is growing rapidly and has an immediate need for a full-time Solar Estimator.

The Solar Estimator will perform all levels and types of solar estimating, planning, scheduling, and cost engineering project activities. The Solar Estimator will manage the project estimation process and be responsible for timely delivery of estimates to sales groups within the company. The Solar Estimator is responsible for preparing complete cost and budgetary estimates and submittal documents for commercial and utility-scale solar PV projects. Through close collaboration with the Sales, Construction and Engineering departments. In addition, develop accurate EPC costs and budgets and compare those estimates to actual expenses throughout a project.

Key Responsibilities:
• Accurately take off all types of solar construction, including utility, commercial, school, etc.
• Examines and reviews unusual cost records and ensures costs data is allocated correctly within the construction environment
• Support project sales during proposal stage by reviewing bid documents, RFPs, preliminary project information, and site characteristics.
• Coordinate the entire estimating process from concept through project award and create Bill of Materials for project cost and construction.
• Develop cost reduction processes and material usage methods to reduce cost of goods while maintaining.
• Develop knowledge of best material suppliers to stay abreast of pricing and other opportunities to provide better value to customers.

Requirements:
• Education: Two-year business or engineering degree or equivalent experience (minimum of 5 years).
• Experience: 2-5 years as an Electrical Estimator (solar or medium voltage applications).
• General Electric Design and Engineering Knowledge: Ability to lay out branch circuiting, understand contract documents, drawings and specifications and general knowledge of electrical material costs.
• McCormick experience desired.

Skills:
• Standards: NEC, NFPA, UL and ISA, as related to design and documentation
• Classifications: Area classification requirements as related to design and documentation
• Wiring: techniques, color-coding, sizing and de-rating, and insulation classifications
• Plans: Able to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layout drawings and wiring diagrams and modify them for optimization
• Applications: Proficient in MS Office
