Mission
Ensure A-C Electric Company’s vehicle and equipment fleet operates safely, reliably, and cost-effectively, supporting uninterrupted field operations across all regions. The Equipment Manager is accountable for fleet performance, cost control, and continuous improvement through strong partnerships with Safety, Procurement, Yard & Logistics, and field leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Equipment Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the acquisition, deployment, utilization, maintenance, repair, and disposal of all company-owned and rented vehicles, trailers, and major equipment.
- This includes vehicle registration and insurance coordination and requirements.
- Establish and manage fleet lifecycle standards, including repair-versus-replace criteria, age/hour thresholds, and replacement timing.
- Develop annual capital replacement and fleet optimization recommendations in coordination with Operations and Finance.
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
- Evaluate the existing Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and determine whether improvements are required to increase uptime, reduce unplanned failures, and extend asset life.
- Develop, refine, and enforce PM schedules aligned with manufacturer standards, regulatory requirements, and field conditions.
- Partner with the Yard & Logistics Superintendent and Material & Equipment Coordinators to ensure consistent PM execution across all yards and regions.
Safety & Compliance
- Partner closely with the Safety team to ensure fleet and equipment standards support company safety objectives.
- Maintain DOT, OSHA, and internal compliance documentation, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
- Support equipment-related safety initiatives, including inspections, operator readiness, and incident prevention.
- Participate in safety meetings and future safety committee efforts as established by the company.
Vendor, Rental & Cost Management
- Partner with Procurement to negotiate and manage rental agreements, MSAs, and preferred vendor programs.
- Establish pricing baselines, utilization benchmarks, and performance expectations to maximize volume discounts and cost efficiency.
- Actively manage vendor performance related to cost, responsiveness, quality, and uptime.
- Analyze rent-versus-own decisions and identify measurable cost-savings opportunities.
Field & Yard Partnership
- Maintain a strong, service-oriented partnership with field leadership to ensure equipment availability and use case (could be customized) aligns with project schedules and productivity needs.
- Work in close coordination with Material & Equipment Coordinators, under the leadership of the Yard & Logistics Superintendent, to improve asset visibility, transfers, and utilization.
- Support material & equipment coordination teams by coordinating equipment availability for deliveries, mobilizations, and redeployments.
Data, Systems & Reporting
- Implement and maintain fleet management, telematics, and asset tracking systems.
- Track utilization, uptime, maintenance costs, and compliance metrics; report KPIs on a regular cadence.
- Use data and benchmarking to support operational decisions, cost control, and continuous improvement.
Requisite Skills / Experience
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial or construction vehicle and equipment fleets
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and improving preventive maintenance programs
- Experience with fleet management and telematics platforms (e.g., Tenna)
- Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and equipment safety standards
- Strong analytical, reporting, and cost management skills
- Excellent coordination, communication, and partnership abilities
Pay Range: $90,000 - $140,000. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
