Mission:
The Senior Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing established safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. This role plays a critical part in fostering a strong safety culture within the organization by conducting training, performing site inspections, and ensuring that all employees adhere to established safety protocols. The Senior Safety Coordinator will work closely with project teams to enforce safety standards, mitigate risks, investigate incidents, and support continuous safety improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Compliance & Program Implementation – Ensure adherence to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety policies, while enforcing site-specific safety requirements.
- Training & Safety Leadership – Conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and coaching to reinforce a strong safety culture among employees, subcontractors and safety coordinators.
- Site Inspections & Hazard Mitigation – Perform regular job site inspections, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective actions to prevent incidents. In addition review, coach and mentor safety coordinators on Site Inspections and Hazard Mitigation, noting trends and developing additional program as needed.
- Incident Response & Investigation – Lead accident investigations, document findings, and support the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to Safety Coordinators on all aspects of incident response and investigation. Prepare for, facilitate, and follow up on Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) to identify contributing factors and ensure effective corrective measures are taken.
- Leadership & Coaching – Lead development programs for safety coordinators across assigned region. Mentor field leaders (not just safety peers) in safety leadership behaviors.
- Strategic Safety Initiatives – Lead Safety KPI reviews with regional leadership (e.g. TRIR, near misses, etc.). Represent safety on pre-construction or bid teams to assess risk early. Own rollouts of new company-wide safety policies or tools as directed by regional leadership.
- Program Development & Innovation – Design (and deploy when approved by regional leadership) scalable safety initiatives to reduce risk and reinforce culture across projects and regions Analyze field data and emerging trends to develop predictive safety strategies that proactively reduce incidents and inform regional leadership directives. Develop and standardize internal safety audit systems, ensuring consistent application and measurable improvement. Collaborate with regional leadership to align safety goals with business objectives and operational strategies.
Additional Duties:
- Assist in the development of safety coordinators as well as execute the following duties on projects assigned:
- Support Crew Foreman/General Foremen in development of Job Hazard Analyses
- Conduct daily field walks to assess the implementation and impact of safety programs, identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors, and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors.
- Leads and deliver safety training and new employee orientations
- Perform and support incident investigations
- Provide regular feedback to regional team on safety areas for improvement and recognition.
- Assist in the development of corrective action plans to address safety issues occurring in the field.
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and influence safety behaviors. Must be able to move through construction sites and work in all weather conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety with 7 years construction safety experience preferred or 8-10 years of construction safety experience.
- OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E Required
- STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction) or CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) required. ASP or CSP preferred.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, ISO 45001, and risk assessment strategies.
- Highly effective communication, leadership, and problemsolving skills.
- Experience supporting and guiding subordinate Safety Managers/Coordinators.
- Role requires strategic involvement with regional leadership and business alignment.
Pay Range: $90,000 – $115,000. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
